Calculate the Net Cost or Proceeds of a USDT Trade
A practical formula and worked examples for gross and net USDT/NGN costs, proceeds, fees and fair comparisons.
Multiplying a rate by an amount is only the first step in estimating a USDT transaction. The useful figure is the amount you actually pay or receive after the costs shown by the service. This guide sets out a repeatable calculation method without assuming that every platform charges the same fees.
Buying USDT with naira
For a simple quote, gross cost = USDT amount × quoted NGN price per USDT. If a separate fee is charged in naira, add that fee to the gross cost. If a fee is deducted from the asset you receive, the net USDT amount will be lower than the order amount; follow the platform's own fee display.
Worked example using illustrative numbers
Assume you want to buy 25 USDT at an example price of ₦1,480 per USDT. The gross cost is 25 × ₦1,480 = ₦37,000. If the checkout separately shows a ₦250 fee, the total cash cost would be ₦37,250. These figures are for arithmetic practice only and are not live rates or a claim about any exchange's fees.
Selling USDT
For a sale, gross proceeds = USDT amount × quoted NGN price per USDT. Subtract any fee that is charged from the naira proceeds. If the service deducts a fee in USDT instead, use the net amount that the service says will be sold rather than subtracting the same fee twice.
Keep fee types separate
- Trading or service fee: a fee explicitly shown by the platform.
- Network fee: may apply when moving a crypto asset between wallets, depending on the route.
- Payment costs: may be imposed by a bank or payment provider.
- Spread: the difference between buy and sell prices; it is not necessarily displayed as a separate fee.
Build a fair comparison
Compare the same amount, direction and payment route. Use the final checkout total when it is available. If a platform does not disclose a cost until a later step, record it as unknown and do not claim that the headline rate is the cheapest overall.
Before confirming
Check the amount, currency, receiving address or payment details, fees and final net figure. Cryptocurrency transfers may be difficult or impossible to reverse. Do not rely on a calculator estimate as a substitute for the exchange's order confirmation.
